Lord Hanuman is a Hindu God that is revered for his unending devotion and love for Sri Rama, the hero of the epic story known as the Ramayana. At the BTGY school, we sing this prayer at least once daily to invoke the qualities that Hanuman embodies of courage, strength, willingness, devotion and love. 

 

Ancient mythology contains many symbolic messages to assist us towards liberation. The esoteric meaning of the Ramayana, as we understand it, is summed up by the following interpretation of the characters in its story: The Mind (Sita) can get hijacked by our self-identified Consciousness (Ravana) and this causes the Mind (Sita) and the Soul (Ram) to be separated. When we the Mind and Soul are no longer in union (Yoga), we will pursue our selfish interests. We ask for Hanuman (breath, devotion) to help us unify our Soul back with the Mind. As the Mind and Soul return to Unity (Sita Ram), we experience ourselves as part of the Whole.

The Hanuman Chalisa is a 40-verse prayer which helps us tell the heroic story that is our Mind's journey back to the Soul through the help of Hanuman.

 

At the bottom of this page, one can find separated recordings to assist them in their home practice. We suggest learning small pieces at a time and spending a few minutes each day in repeating the lines that are offered. We are inviting feelings of reverence and love into one's heart as we do these chants. Our intention matters.

 

Thus, we find the path of Bhakti Yoga; union with the Divine through sincere love and devotion for oneself. We are cultivating that deep willingness that is required to bring the Mind and Soul into union. The Mind keeps getting hijacked, and will make us believe all sorts of things. The Mind can be such a trickster and will keep distracting us with its desires and convincing beliefs. Fear not, Hanuman is on our side. We practice to rewrite our patterns, and overcome any tendencies which are making us believe we are unworthy of love. We practice because we know that we are the ones we love. Lover and Beloved are One (Jai Sita Ram!) We practice until authentic self-love pours through us into the world around us. Laye Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaye               You brought Sanjivan (A herb that revives life) and restored

Hoye siddhi sakhi Gaureesa                  regularly are sure to be benedicted. Such is the evidence of                                                                         no less witness as Bhagwan Sankar.
